Terms of use
These are the rules for using Rotorhead. By using the app, or creating a Rotorhead account, you agree to them.
In short. Rotorhead is a study aid and flying companion. It is not a training organisation, not the CAA, and not a weather briefing service. Its content can contain mistakes, the AI tutor can be wrong, and nothing in the app replaces your instructor, the official syllabus, an official pre-flight briefing or your own responsibility as pilot in command. Your data is yours. The app and its content belong to Skids Down.
These terms are a contract between you and Pedal Pulse Technologies Ltd, trading as Skids Down, a company registered in England and Wales (company number [00000000]) whose registered office is at [registered office address]. How we handle personal data is covered separately in the privacy policy.

1. What Rotorhead is
Rotorhead is an app for iPhone, iPad and Mac for people studying for the UK PPL(H) helicopter theory exams and for pilots who want a simple flying companion. It has two halves:
- Study. A question bank, lessons, labs, flashcards with spaced review, mock exams, a glossary and an optional AI tutor, all organised around the CAA PPL(H) syllabus.
- Flying. A personal logbook, a currency tracker, a career-path tracker, an aerodrome weather view and links to third-party briefing pages.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Rotorhead. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian should read these terms with you.
2. Apple
You get Rotorhead from Apple's App Store, so Apple's standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement also applies. These terms sit alongside it. This contract is between you and Skids Down, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to maintain or support the app, is not responsible for the app, its content or any claim about it, and Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these terms against you as third-party beneficiaries. If the two documents conflict, Apple's agreement wins on matters about Apple.
3. Not a training organisation or an authority
Skids Down is not an approved or declared training organisation, an examiner or a regulator. Please read this section carefully, because it matters for your safety and your exams.
- The content is ours, not the CAA's. The questions, lessons and labs we ship are written by Skids Down; tutor answers, and any lessons, cards or questions the tutor builds for you, are generated by an AI model. None of it is CAA-approved material and none of it comes from the official question bank. It may contain errors or be out of date. Where our content and the official syllabus or your instructor differ, the syllabus and your instructor prevail.
- Weather and briefing links are aids only. The weather view shows reports, forecasts and radar from third-party sources, and the briefing links open third-party websites in a browser view inside the app. They are there for convenience. They are not an official pre-flight briefing, they can be delayed, incomplete or wrong, and you must not plan or fly on them alone.
- Currency figures are a convenience. The app's currency and recency calculations are based on what you have entered and on our reading of the rules. They do not replace your own check against the current regulations and your licence conditions.
- The logbook is a convenience. Rotorhead's logbook is a personal record to help you keep track. You remain responsible for keeping your official pilot logbook in the form the law requires, and for checking anything you export from the app before you rely on it.
- You are pilot in command. Nothing in the app changes your legal responsibility for every decision about whether, when and how to fly.
4. Your account and the AI tutor
Account
You do not need an account to use most of Rotorhead. Your study progress and logbook live on your device and, if you have iCloud turned on, in your own iCloud account. An account is only needed for the built-in AI tutor, and you create it with Sign in with Apple. Keep your Apple ID secure. You are responsible for use of your account that you authorise or that happens because you have not kept your Apple ID secure; you are not responsible for use that results from a failure on our side. You can sign out at any time from the tutor settings in the app. To delete your account, email privacy@skidsdown.com from the address on the account; in-app deletion is coming in the next update. Everything our server holds about you is removed, as the privacy policy describes.
The built-in tutor
The built-in tutor sends your question, together with your learner notes and study progress, to our server, which passes it to an AI model run by Anthropic and returns the reply. Each account has a daily allowance for tutor use. The allowance depends on your plan, resets at midnight UTC, and the app tells you when it is used up. We may change the allowance for the reasons set out in section 8, and we may suspend tutor access for an account that is being used unfairly, for example by automated use or by sharing one account between many people.
AI answers can be wrong
The tutor is a language model. It can give confident answers that are incorrect, incomplete or not the current UK rule. Treat its output as a study prompt, not as authority, and check anything important against the syllabus, your textbooks and your instructor.
Bringing your own key
You can instead point the tutor at your own account with an AI provider, such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Groq, Google, OpenRouter or a server you run yourself, or use Apple's on-device models where your device supports them. If you do, that use is at your own cost, under that provider's terms and privacy policy, and outside our control. We do not see those conversations and cannot support or refund them.
5. Content and intellectual property
Rotorhead, including the app, its design, its question bank, lessons, labs, glossary and all other content we supply, belongs to Skids Down or its licensors and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property law. We give you a personal, non-transferable, non-commercial licence to use that content inside the app for your own study. Content packs downloaded by the app are covered by the same licence.
Your own data is yours: your logbook entries, your notes, the cards and answers you write, your results and anything you export. You keep all rights to it. By using the tutor you give us permission to process your learner notes and study context only as far as needed to answer you, as described in the privacy policy.
Third-party weather and lookup data shown in the app comes from Apple Weather, aviationweather.gov, Open-Meteo, RainViewer, the Met Office and hexdb.io and is subject to those sources' own licences and attribution requirements, which the app displays.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- copy, scrape, extract or republish the question bank, lessons or other content, by hand or by automation, or use it to train a model or build a competing product;
- decompile, reverse engineer or tamper with the app, beyond what the law expressly allows you to do without our consent;
- abuse the AI allowance, for example by automating requests, sharing accounts, creating multiple accounts to get round the limit, or using the tutor for anything other than study;
- use the app to send unlawful, abusive or harmful content to our servers or to any provider;
- interfere with the service, probe it for weaknesses, or try to access other people's data.
If we reasonably believe you have broken these rules we may suspend or close your Rotorhead account. We will tell you why and, unless the breach is serious or the law prevents it, give you a chance to put it right first. The app itself keeps working without an account. If we close a paid account for a reason other than your breach, you can claim a refund for the unused period through Apple.
7. Purchases
At the moment Rotorhead has no paid plan. If we offer one, it will be bought through Apple's App Store as an in-app purchase or subscription. Apple handles the payment, the price shown in your local store, any trial, renewal and cancellation, and refunds under Apple's own terms and refund rules. Refunds for App Store purchases are processed by Apple, not by us. If you are entitled to a refund, for example because the app does not match its description, contact Apple through the App Store; if Apple needs us to confirm anything we will do so. Any paid plan will be described in the app before you buy it, including what it adds and how to cancel.
8. Availability and changes
We aim to keep Rotorhead and the tutor service running, but we do not promise that they will always be available, uninterrupted or free of faults. Parts of the app depend on third parties, including Apple, Anthropic and the weather and briefing sources, and may stop working when they change. We may change these terms, the tutor allowance or the app's features to reflect changes in the law, in Apple's or our providers' requirements, in our costs, or to add, improve or secure features. If a change would significantly reduce what a paid plan gives you, we will tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before it takes effect, and you can cancel through Apple before then; Apple's refund rules apply to any unused period. For other changes we will update the effective date below and, for significant ones, tell you in the app.
9. Liability
9.1 Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that the law does not let us exclude or limit. In particular, we remain liable for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for digital content you pay for not being as described, of satisfactory quality or fit for purpose, and for damage to your device or data caused by our failure to use reasonable care and skill. Everything else in this section is subject to this paragraph.
9.2 If you pay for Rotorhead, the law says it must be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose, and nothing in these terms takes that away. Subject to 9.1, Skids Down is not liable for:
- any flight decision you take, or its consequences, where you relied on weather, briefing links, currency figures or logbook data shown in the app rather than an official briefing and your own checks (this does not cover death or personal injury caused by our negligence, see 9.1);
- exam results, or the consequences of relying on our content or the tutor's answers;
- loss of your data that we did not cause, for example because iCloud is unavailable, you lose or wipe a device, or you delete or move an export folder. If our lack of reasonable care damages your data or your device, you can ask us to repair it or compensate you, as the Consumer Rights Act 2015 provides;
- loss of profit, business or opportunity, or any indirect or consequential loss.
9.3 Subject to 9.1, where we are liable to you our total liability for all claims in any twelve-month period is limited to the greater of £50 and the amount you paid for Rotorhead through the App Store in that period.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you live elsewhere in the UK you may also bring a claim in your own country's courts, and if you are a consumer you keep any protection your local law gives you that cannot be taken away by contract.
If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
